Default What is my purpose?

Over 2 years of playing Guild Wars and now I am really starting to struggle to find a reason to keep playing. Of course what I want to do is play for fun, but it's getting harder and harder. If I'm honest I put this down to the fact that the player base if frankly quite pathetic, the only people left are powertraders (e.g. me sort of but better), elite PvPers, GWAMMers and Farmers. Screw it! I miss the days when I could find ordinary players to PUG missions with, I miss the days when I could do AB without waiting for 5 minutes in between matches. So yeah, this is partly a QQ thread (ugh hate that term....), but you kind of don't need to read this bit so much, the next paragraph is more important

So what is there left to do? Seriously. I just want some ideas of what to do; what do you guys 'n' gals do for a bit of fun on Guild Wars? Mostly I find myself doing a vanquish, getting bored and then having conversations with random people in-game. It's a sad life.

So yeah what to do? Leave your interesting or sarcastic suggestions below

Zaishen Missions are the best bet for some team up fun and ''Wanted:'' quests

You might get some good suggestions... but bear in mind - games don't last forever. When you have exhausted a game, and it's no longer fun... it's time to move onto another game.

You may have reached this point in GW. 2 years is a pretty good run. If so, I suggest you just pop back in now again, to say hi, check on the War in Kryta (and whatever comes after that to lead us to GW2). Or just come back for GW2.

So many people become obsessive compulsive addicts, and keep playing even when they're not having fun anymore... they bitch and moan endlessly, about lack of new content, updates, blah blah blah, me me me. Basically, they blame A-Net for their own inability to "move on". Don't be one of those people.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I'll try the Zaishen stuff White, never done it before so it might be fun.

Yeah thanks, tbh I need someone to tell me this, I am a bit OCD about playing it (although actually about a year ago I did quit for 5 or 6 months so it's not impossible to overcome ^^).

This is not quite true IMHO. The "good" people are still there (well, some of them), but they're hidden, you can't see them because they don't play 24/7, they play mainly H/H, they don't frequent crowded places such as Spamadan, and there are so many towns and outpost that you have to be lucky to catch them in the right moment in the right place.

So my advice would be this: try to find some "good" friend and play with him, if you can.

Five years of GW off and on, and that is the key. Except at the beginning I always had another game going on the side. Sometimes a couple.

Now a lot of us are waiting for GW2 it would seem. I play a bit everyday; just some minor task, work on a title I don't need, check out the Zaishen quests, maybe just a map I haven't visited in a long time. The rest of my guild is about the same. Some vanish for weeks at a time.

There are some really great games out there! More that I want to play than I can play. Look up Good Old Games for some great classics really cheap, visit Impulse Driven, look around on Steam. Used games from your local games vendor or used book store.

... some of them hard games ... when Insane Fairy Princesses Go Berserk has "pwned" you 5 times in a row, time to crank up GW again!

Same here and I think that's why I still don't find GW boring when I do log in. Playing other games helps to break up the monotony.

If you are struggling to find things to do in Guild Wars, it's time to do something else for a while.

The key for me is my guild. They make the game interesting for me and I would assume vice versa. Having a good group of ppl to play with makes all the difference in the world.

I'm lucky, I still have a lot to do before GW2, like getting GWAMM and filling my HoM

Ooh...and helping guild members when they can't do easy missions :P

Grind for titles dur, what else! Then you can afk in kamadam showing off your 1337 title with everyone else to show just how much of your life you wasted.

Or you could try to get into pvp, of course make sure you spent 10 hours a day online, with your guild practicing.

Sarcasm aside, you really need friends or a good guild to stimulate you. As said before, the player base is appalling now and h/h doesn't cut it.

Your asking for affirmation on your boredom.

/uninstall

What I'm saying is if you find this game boring then leave or at least find new enjoyment in other areas.

Gaming enjoyment is subjective.That's fact.

Personally I just changed my motivations from PvP and GvG focus to PvE and helping new players.

At the end of the day it's up to you how boring or dead any game is.

Either way much luck.

If you need to ask "what can I do in this game?", after you have tried a bit of everything, then maybe you should take a break from GW for a while.

My suggestion is to find another game for a couple of months, then when you come back you might decide to start a new character from scratch.

Diversifying the "food" on the game plate is a good thing to do to avoid getting burned.
This weekend for example, I'm playing Team Fortress 2, it is free to download and use from steam until sunday evening.
Then there is Oblivion GotY DELUXE Edition, discounted at 8.5 euros (a bit more than a costume, less than a character slot), if you haven't picked up that game already, get it before the offer expires (on Sunday). That will give you plenty of stuff to play for quite a long time...

Give a look on Steam, every weekend they make crazy discounts on something... last week they had Batman Arkham Asylum with 50% off...

I'm doing this, and I assure you, when you'll log back in GW you won't be bored.

Or newcomers, I have the game now for around 11 months and still enjoying it. Rught now I am finishing all campaigns on my favorite toons.
Just now I finished hells precipe on my warrior, I did not look forward to that but I have no idea why. If my chars dropped under 98% health before the lich I didn't notice or see it.

I have quite a way to go with my other chars, sometimes I just help out with my necro because she finished everything and I think Necro is fun

I have personally taken 3 or 4 breaks of 6 months since the game came out. It grows stagnate from the grinding with no real purposes other than titles.

If another game comes out that I like I'll play it a while, but always come back to GW. After investing 5 years in it, it is hard to give up on completely. Just find something you enjoy and play that style. PvE got old, I don't play GvG or HA, but RA is a lot of fun if you can overlook the obvious flaws in the people there.

Zaishen passes time as well. For a While I would get a Zaishen Bounty and make that the area that I vanquished that day.

I vanquished one map everyday on random character, got one profession each, so... that would take me ages.

This I only do on the character that has the most maps uncovered, 0.01% of map to uncovered in Nightfall, planning to start from Kamadan once more, scrap the edge and comb the grass inch by inch even if it crippled my wrist.

I probably would be collecting orr emblems, getting ready for Halloween O.o yeah, I know, so far away, but what to do, hackers stole all my alcohol, but I think it would be less boring, if I start early, I don't have to be farming for orr emblems everyday, I could do it like maybe a few runs per week. and still be able to vanquished.

After that, I want to unlock/buy all available skills of all profession for my main character.

Also last continent to vanquished for my main is Cantha, 5 more maps, thats usually 5 days, but , i don't play only one character, so it will take as long as needed.

then I want to complete the Zaishen Title track, and the Kurzicks and Luxon title track. that would bring me to 20 maxed titles.

Then it would be drinking drinking drinking and more drinking, I only wish i have my alcohol now, I use to do the drunkard title while playing .... I don't think i can complete this title if I had to stand in town just clicking ...

The Drunkard title is hypocrisy at it's finest when you think about it.

I have been playing for almost 5 years now....I play just about everyday. I am not bored with the game, sometimes I get a bit tired then I take a day or two off and come back.
I come back because I have lots of characters who have goals and until those goals are accomplished I dont feel I have completed the game---so I am not working with some of my mules (heck my sin finally made it to level 20!)

If the game is no longer fun, there is no need to play, if you want a reason to play then find some goals for your characters.

I play a lot of different games including other MMO's and RPG games, but I only ever "seriously" play one game at the time which means when I go back to another game there is always something fresh about it.

Right now I've started to play DDO as my dedicated game, and the only GW thing I do is the WiK content and only on one char.

When LotR goes f2p later this year I'm going to try that as well + the pre-cataclysm event in WoW will be something new as well (have eleven 80's... really sad )
